The beautiful thing about taking a safari holiday in Tanzania, is that you can visit several world-famous parks in just a few days. Tarangire National Park, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti Plains are all pretty close when it comes to distances in Africa, so you can visit all three areas on a spectacular 5-day overland safari, and see the very best of what this region has to offer.
Many people choose to complement their Kilimanjaro Climb with a safari and/or a beach break in Zanzibar, and they both work exceptionally well. Both the Serengeti and the Spice Islands are just a short hop from Africa’s highest mountain, but you need to plan your trip carefully.
Safari holidays can be tiring, filling (the food and wines are delicious and plentiful!) and there are certainly no opportunities to train in the bush, so we would strongly recommend you start your safari after your expedition, so that you can truly relax and enjoy the delights on offer, and then top off your trip to Tanzania with a few nights on the sugar white beaches of Zanzibar. Here’s a sample 5-day safari itinerary to inspire you…
Day 01: Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, depart Arusha for Tarangire National Park – the 6th largest National Park in Tanzania. Upon arrival, take a game drive in the park where you can expect to find herds of up to 300 elephants in what is the largest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti. You will enjoy a picnic lunch in the park before returning to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 02: Serengeti National Park
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Serengeti National Park is one of the natural wonders of the world, and today you will get chance to explore it on a full day safari. As with yesterday, you will enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park before returning to your lodge (choice of accommodations available).
Day 03: Serengeti National Park
There is so much to see in the Serengeti that one day simply isn’t enough! Today you will enjoy another full day game viewing in the park, where your ranger will do his very best to find Africa’s Big 5 and much more!
Day 04: Ngorongoro Conservation Area
After a leisurely breakfast today, you will continue your journey to the colourful Karatu Town where you can shop for local goods. You will then continue to the Ngorongoro Conservation area for an evening at leisure.
Day 05: Ngorongoro Crater
Another UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ngorongoro Crater is a true place of natural wonder. Today you will have the opportunity to take a half-day crater tour, before making your way back to Arusha for a final overnight, or directly to the airport for your onward flight to Zanzibar.
